In
the beginning of spiritual life a man should think about sin and how to
get rid of it. But when, through the grace of God, devotion and
ecstatic love are awakened in his heart, then he altogether forgets
virtue and sin. Then he leaves the scriptures and their injunctions far
behind. Thoughts of repentance and penance do not bother him at all.
